Sawiris Distinction Scholarship for Students with Disabilities

Sawiris Foundation offers scholarships for 10 Egyptian high school students with disabilities to obtain their undergraduate degree from one of the prominent universities in Egypt. The scholarship aims to provide excellent educational opportunities to students with disabilities that would enhance their job market skills.


SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS:

  • Tuition fees
  • Textbooks or laboratory supplies and a laptop
  • Accommodation for expatriates at the university dorms
  • Living allowance
  • Necessary accessible equipment

The scholarship supports studying bachelor programs available at the following universities:

  • Arab Academy for Science Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT)
  • Galala University
  • ESLSCA University

Field of study:

  • The scholarship is offered to all fields of study in partner universities. The applicant decides the selection of the university and field of study.

PERIOD OF FUNDING:

Depending on the field of study.


ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

  • To be an Egyptian national residing in Egypt (preference will not be given to dual nationality holders).
  • Recent graduates from high school (Thanaweya Amma) or its equivalents with a minimum score of 85%.
  • To submit a certified medical proof of disability and/or medical card.
  • Applicants must receive proof of admission/conditional admission by the time they complete Sawiris Foundation’s application.
  • The scholarships are awarded based on financial need as well as merit and character demonstrated through academic excellence, extracurricular activities, and social behavior.
  • Accepted students must stay in Egypt for 3 years after graduating.
  • Preference will be given to Takaful and Karama program beneficiaries.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

  • Personal Photo.
  • A copy of your birth certificate.
  • A copy of your national ID.
  • A copy of your guardians national ID (noting that your guardian will sign the scholarship contract).
  • A copy of your first secondary grade transcripts.
  • A copy of your second secondary grade transcripts.
  • A recommendation letter from one of your school teachers.
  • A copy of certificates of academic excellence, training courses, and community activities, if any.
  • A copy of your English language proficiency test, if any.
  • A certificate or report of proof of disability, from an accredited government agency.
  • Copy of integrated service card for people with disabilities (if applicable).
  • Takaful and Karama program proof (if applicable).
  • Initial acceptance letter from the university you wish to enroll in through the scholarship.
  • Parental consent for you to join the scholarship.

SELECTION COMMITTEE:

The committee includes panelists from Sawiris Foundation for Social Development and and representatives of partner universities.


IMPORTANT APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

The scholarship applicant is required to have already applied to the university he/she wishes to enroll in, and to have fulfilled all the requirements needed from the university. Admission into the Sawiris Distinction Scholarship for Students with Disabilities does not guarantee university admission.


For applicants applying to the AASTMT

Students wishing to apply for admission to the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport must take the Cambridge English Placement Test. Please note that exam registration is available on the AASTMT website after completing the online application process for studying at the academy through the following link: https://aastmtic.aast.edu/admission/application/ui/

The cost of the application file for studying at the Arab Academy is 1800 EGP, which is refundable only in the case of being awarded a scholarship.

Selection as a nominee for the Sawiris Foundation Scholarship for Students with Disability does not guarantee university acceptance. Applicants need to apply to their desired universities before the deadline of Sawiris Foundation’s application.
