Improving the Profession
of Home Health Care Providers in Cairo Governorate

Time frame: April 2004- June 2005  

Project Context:

Given the high demand for home health care providers to care for the elderly, persons with special needs and children with cancer, and the success of the Care with Love  project, a need has emerged to prepare a core group of trainers to sustain the activities and the finances of Care With Love.

 

Objectives:


The project aims to create 90 job opportunities for young persons in the health services sector. 15 persons will be trained to become the core training team of Care With Love and ensure the delivery of high quality training and 70 new home health care providers  will be trained to care for the elderly and people with special needs. As well as 5 supervisors for health care providers who would be placed in  different health care institutions and NGOs across Egypt. This would assist Care With Love to reach financial sustainability
 

Partners:

Care with Love, an NGO founded in August 2003 with the aim of establishing and managing health care centers to serve the elderly and persons with special needs and their families. It also aims at training specialized home health care providers through theoretical, ethical and practical training. The organization executes and supervises the project.

Other partners include: Friends of Children with Cancer, Golden Jubilee Geriatric Center and Hospice, Al-Salam Hospital in Mohandessin, Center for Geriatric Services in Nasr City, Good Shepherd Hospital in Shubra, Dar Hedaya Barakat for Elderly Poor, Dar El Safa Geriatric Center, Center for Geriatric Services and Synod of the Nile. The trainers will provide on-the-job training and job opportunities for some of the trainees.   

Project Status:

15 trainers who were carefully chosen after passing the necessary medical and psychological tests have been trained on the Care with Love curriculum, communication and interpersonal skills. In addition to that, 74 home health care providers have completed their training and have been employed in Care with Love and other Health Care Institutions. Nine supervisors have also completed their training and have been employed in the Banat Maryam Covent and in various health units in Upper Egypt.
